Press Release: MEDITECH’s Global Digital Exemplar Customers Leading UK’s Healthcare Revolution

Press release on behalf of MEDITECH.

Congratulations to MEDITECH customers City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust on being named Global Digital Exemplars by the NHS.

According to the NHS, global digital exemplars are internationally recognised NHS care providers known for delivering exceptional and efficient care through the world-class use of digital technology and information flows, both within and beyond their organisation boundary. The exemplar hospitals were selected based on their results on NHS’ Digital Maturity Assessment.

City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust

City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is looking forward to optimising its MEDITECH information system to achieve the Trust’s goal of becoming paper free at the point of care, as well as work towards HIMSS Stage 7 accreditation. This includes expanding interoperability features to better support patient transitions between the Trust and other health and social care settings.

“We are very happy with the sophistication of our MEDITECH solution,” says Sunderland’s Director of Information, Management and Technology Andy Hart. “By optimizing what we already have, we can continue on our journey of mitigating clinical risk, improving the quality of our services we provide to our patients, and becoming more efficient through the use of the MEDITECH solution. We can also better serve our population outside of the hospital walls.”

The Trust provides a wide range of hospital services to a local community of around 350,000 residents, along with an increasing range of more specialised services for as many as 860,000 patients outside this area.

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool is using MEDITECH 6.x Electronic Patient Record (EPR), supplied by Centennial MIT.

“This recognition of our hard work to apply new technology in the NHS is wonderful. This award will really help us accelerate and enhance our existing plans to improve care for children and their families, not just here in Liverpool, but across Cheshire and Merseyside and the rest of the UK and, with our partners, internationally,” said CEO Louise Shepherd, in a recent press release.

“It is no exaggeration to say that technology is the biggest potential game-changer in healthcare at the moment. The intelligent use of digital technology, big sets of data and personalised communication has vast potential to improve patient experience and outcomes and we are excited to be at the forefront of that revolution.”

As one of the largest children's hospitals in Western Europe, Alder Hey Children's Hospital is looking toward a paperless system that will help them care for over 275,000 patients and families that visit the Trust each year.
