Every year the Society awards two research grants of €2000 each, to enable individuals study an area of Healthcare Informatics. Submissions are received from a range of Informatics students at Bachelor, Higher Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma, Masters and PhD level. Applicants are required to submit a 500-word application incorporating the rationale for the study, a brief section on the methodology proposed and a breakdown of the planned use of the funding to be awarded. Finally, they should state how this study will contribute to the area of healthcare informatics in Ireland. Successful applicants will be required to submit a paper to the HISI conference within two years of the award. They will also be required to account for the expenditure of the funding awarded. Failure to fulfill either of these conditions will results in a demand for the return of the funding. Submissions are now being accepted for the 2009 grants. A prize of €300 will be off ered for the best paper or poster presentation. Note: Abstracts should comply with the guidelines issued by the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland.
